Nisemonogatari – 05

And more delays. I’m blaming this one on the SoupRBowl… Um, the Super Bowl. But in any case, this week’s episode of Nisemonogatari features Araragi-kun’s large…

…amount of awesomeness.

Caly says: “Nothing sucks more than typesetting in 10 minute intervals between classes.”

Shini says:

Sorry for the delay. Here’s Nisemonogatari 05!

DDL situation is being sorted. Hopefully for next week

Extreme gratitude for all the subtitling for thise series! (And others in the past.)

If I may, I would like to posit an alternate parsing of an interesting/tricky line in the Karen Bee opening:

‘kiyoku tadashiku soshite kakkoyoku naku(cry verb)n ja nee’
‘kiyoku tadashiku sou shite kakkoyoku naku(from ‘nai’)n ja nee’.

I puzzled over the negatives and then overall meaning, then when clearing my mind and listening to the entire section noticed the long ‘sou’.

Interpretation thus that ‘sou shite’ refers to the tokeru in the ondo, the verb that the kotae refers to being that ‘sou shite’ rather than not-crying which would seem to otherwise have to be ‘not impressively crying’.

The meaning in this case might then be on the lines of ‘To do so nobly and righteously, isn’t it cool?’ (to melt away in that heat, given that one is going to melt in it anyway and thinking of what the answer is to that situation–to do so nobly and righteously, isn’t that cool? –More or less.)

(For the Kakkoyoku part, reminded of the phrase ‘Arienaku nai?’, which can be roughly collapsed to ‘Arienai deshou’, with ‘Kakkoyoku nakun ja nee?’ being roughly collapsable to ‘Kakkoii deshou’.)

    *hopeful tail-wagging*

I really like your interpretation! I’ll definitely put that in if they use that OP again. :-)

The amount of thought you put into that makes me ask if you’d be interested in TLing for anime…

        *great happiness!*

Thank you for the question; unfortunately I tend to avoid forming obligations, and the first and last time I allowed a group to gradually coax me into formally collaborating with them (Shikkaku, on Ben-To) they then almost immediately turned hostile and banned me from their forums forever without explanation, which has given me the fairly strong impression that Bad Things(TM) happen if I try to cooperate a group directly, even if I don’t know why.

I do enjoy improving my understanding of Japanese through watching subtitled episodes though, and harder-to-translate phrases are particularly useful for testing/tempering/honing/refining my parsing/understanding ability, so if I notice similarly interesting things in future which snag my analytical curiosity I may at that time be tempted to again put forth my thoughts on them at that time.

        Thank you again!

Another great episode. A shame though that the ep cut off at the best moment T.T.

Oh yay…a torrent that works and a tracker that isn’t blocked.

Thanks so much for doing this, best part of the week for sure. Keep up the great work.

  • (・´々`・)

The ED karaoke effects totally ate up all my E6600 CPU to an unplayable level, the OP from this and ED from the previous episode were fine though.

Hope you fix that for the next ep, or maybe you can consider hard-subbing karaoke effects or something like providing an alternate subtitle track.

    • Calyrica

I’ll definitely look into it, but the OP is a lot more intensive, an the only thing I changed between the ED from ep 4 and ep 5 is the font. o.O So I’m not quite sure why the ED for this ep in particular is giving you issues…

Mostly, MPC internal subtitle renderer can’t handle it well. Try change to another player that use libass like mplayer/potplayer or use xy-VSFilter instead ISR.

  • Thank you very much for the Nisemonogatari releases so far :D ! Of all the groups that sub Nisemonogatari, Shini-subs’ releases have the highest quality and the best styling =)
