Something broke. Badly.
Firstly, someone opted to seed via UDP from this server on port 80 (no names). Bad idea, because OVH has an automated system that detects suspected DDoS attacks. And guess who got hit by it, seeding at a few hundred mbit/s. So the server was down for a while, while myself and shini negotiated with OVH in order to bring the server back online. It worked! …and the HDD promptly failed. So the past few days forever has been taken up with backups, more backups, log inspection, cursing at shini for him not enabling certain logs, multiplayer notepad on a recovery VNC, attempting to fix a broken windows installation without direct access to the machine, and trying to see if we could afford to lose a terrabyte of data (granted, 300GB of that was stuff from me) in order to back up to storage device.
Shini Addition: So, in order to fix this, we now have a second server, Yui. AriGold and I have spent days and weeks trying to get Mikan back online. Huge amounts of stress involved, but at the end of the day, we got there. Big thanks to AriGold for setting up Yui and Mikan once we had them back. Thanks to Hiroto also for helping with the commandline copying we had to resort to because the program OVH supplies to back up their server is about as much use as a wet paper bag.
On a better note, we’re back, and we even saved the database. So with that, expect more subbing soon……..once i recover, that is.
PS: Windows command line sucks; command line on windows is far slower than in *nix and has no standards for programs’ options.
PPS: Event viewer not logging by default sucks.
PPPS: Windows sucks for servers.
PPPPS: Shini, get on Tribes: Ascend.
PPPPPS: Shinisaki: NEVER!!!!!! :D
Glad to see you guys back and managed to save the DB. Would’ve been a shame to have to start over from scratch.
Keep the fire burning :D
Good to have you back. Seems part of Nisemonogatari has been lost. It’s moments like those that I’m happy I’m an archiver :D
Welcome back =D
That’s why Windows + Servers = bad idea! Linux ftw
Lol. Hi Holo. Nice to see you too :D
